Subject: Squires Spiritual Activity for March
Squires / Parents,
Just a reminder that instead of our March monthly meeting we will be joining the Knights of Columbus and fellow parishioners in celebration of a Marian Hour for Our Lady of Guadalupe at 6 pm in the church this Thursday, March 12th. The service should last about an hour.
For those who do not know the whole story, Mary appeared to Juan Diego back in 1531 in Tepayac Mexico requesting him to build a church there in her honor. Juan indicated that he must get approval from the bishop who wanted proof that Mary in fact made this request. Mary appeared again to Juan Diego and personally placed some Castillian roses that were growing nearby in his tilma (peasant cloak). The bishop would know this was the miraculous proof he requested because those roses were not common in that area and it was December! (too cold for roses to grow). As Juan opened his tilma to present the roses to the bishop, an imprint of the Blessed Mary appeared on the tilma from the residue of the roses and soil. The image of Mary is still visible on the tilma to this day - almost 500 years! (Tilmas normally wore out in 15 years or so based on the material they were made with). The tilma is displayed in the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City and its story has been the driving force for the conversion of millions to the Catholic faith.

We will be discussing participation for 2 near-term events, let me know if you / your son can attend one, both, or neither:
1. Help pick fruit at Miles Jesu this Saturday, 2/11 starting at 9 a.m. (for 2-3 hours)
2. Bowling social activity Saturday, March 3rd

Per our January meeting, a couple of items were discussed that I wanted to pass along and request a reply if you are interested in one or both events.
1. The Knights are helping Miles Jesus at 20th/Baseline (a small catholic parish) pick fruit through the beginning of March and asked if the Squires would like to help one weekend. They start at 9 am and work until about noon. This parish has an orange grove on their property and the fruit is sold to help them financially.
a. We are tentatively setting Saturday, February 11th as the date to help. We will discuss at the February monthly meeting on 2/9/12 and can discuss car-pooling if we get enough Squires to attend.
2. If your family would be interested in hosting a US Air Force cadet Feb 3rd-5th let me know and I can get you more details. High level, the choir from the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs will be performing at our parish on Saturday the 4th and Sunday the 5th of February and they are looking for family’s to take in a cadet (college age, so 18-22) Friday and Saturday night. You can request both the gender and age of the cadet.

Just a reminder that the Squire’s Christmas party is this Saturday, 12/17/11 from 12 – 3 pm.
11:45 a.m. - Meet at the church in the north parking lot by the basketball hoops then drive as a group to La Estancia nursing home at 42nd St. / Chandler Blvd, just south of Chandler Blvd. on the west side of the street. (42nd St. is the one by Arby’s).
12:00 p.m. – Arrive at nursing home. We will hand out candy canes and the Tang’s will play a few Christmas tunes.
12:30 pm. – 1:00 p.m. – Return to church
1:00 – 3:00 pm - Squire’s Christmas Party in Rooms 5 & 6 – food and drinks to be provided.

P.S. – We will be selling ‘Keep Christ in Christmas’ magnets again this weekend at all the masses. We sold 39 last weekend and hoping to sell the rest this weekend!
